Spirit of Bharat and Paramahamsa Nithyananda

Bharat is the very land of spirituality. It’s been one place where human mind has always aspired for the ultimate, the divine with single pointed focus and in the process created everything else the world has ever known. The very fragrance of this beautiful culture has attracted people of all races and traditions from across the world from time immemorial and it’s still the case!

Bharat Mata has always been giving, giving and giving in the true motherly spirit to all those who came for whatever reason. Seekers have come with spiritual thirst, travelers came for darshan of amazing sights and beauty, academics came for the knowledge of shastras and scriptures, artists and musicians came to learn arts and at the same time marauders and all conquering armies came to plunder the immense wealth and just uproot the culture with the might of sword in their blind religious frenzy.

Needless to say, in a motherly way with true brahamanical spirit, Bharat Mata gave its all to whoever came for whatever purpose. So unfathomable has been the compassion that even those who came to plunder and molest were given its very life breath. Never once the men with sword were threatened with sword. This doesn’t mean Bharat Mata didn’t produce brave sons. Infact the bravery of it’s sons is unparalleled in the history of humanity. While the great cultures of Persia, Babylonia, Aztecs, Mayans and like were uprooted within a few years under the tyranny of sword, Bharat Mata’s sons stood tall like walls for several hundred years till any harm could befall on mother. We still live on as the only surviving continuous great culture from the past.

The motive was always self-defense. Harming the enemy was never our nature nor intention. Never ever was enemy border violated nor the women or children ever touched. Nay, we didn’t even consider anyone as enemy. Any aggression was just seen as a small mischief. A mother would always pardon her children no matter what they do, same way each time the sword was defeated and pardoned in the true motherly spirit.

However, men became cunning over time, values got eroded and instincts took over dharma. Money and power blinded humans in such a way that eyes are no longer able to see compassion and grace, ears are no longer receptive to the divine melody, smell of the spiritual fragrance doesn’t reach the nose and tongue is unable to express any gratitude.

In this changed world, mother is not sacred anymore. The all giver became the object of mockery and poverty. The mother who gave it’s very life and soul for its children, is ridiculed by the same children who no longer remember the past.  The new generation is ignorant of the glory and truth. Blinded with material ambition, they stand arm in arm with people who came and sucked the very blood of mother.

As long as Bharat Mata breathes, one thing, which never changed and will not change, is the beautiful tradition, the purest gem which mother has saved in her bosom. It’s the guru-shishya parampara, ie, the Guru –disciple tradition!

The real treasure, the knowledge, the spark of ultimate has been transferred for thousands and thousands of years from one generation to the other. Bharat is the land of great rishis, true sons of the divine who cared for nothing but service to humanity. Food, clothes, shelter, even a trace of personal comfort were not even their concern, they were ever ready to give even very backbone to liberate humanity and make it rise to next level of consciousness. This tireless works has never stopped and still goes on in the face of whatever obstacles society can create.

In this great tradition of Adi Shiva, Shankaracharya, Ramakrishna and Vivekananda another such selfless ever compassionate great rishi descended on this blessed land and the world called him Paramahamsa Nithyananda!

From the very young age of three it was clear to everyone around him that this boy was unique and destined for higher things. Ever absorbed in meditation and yogic practices, his favorite pastimes were making and worshipping clay idols and service at the Arunachaleshwara temple. Other enlightened masters of Tiruvannamalai, Yogi Ramsurat Kumar, Annamalai Swamigal and many more could see the greatness hidden in this small boy and loved his company.

Nithyananda’s whole life has been a selfless penance for the sake of humanity. He took on Parivrajaka (spiritual wandering) at the young age of 17 and traveled length and breadth of India to understand the people and needs of the time. During this period he also attained the ultimate state and realized his vision for the World. He came down to Bengaluru in 2002 and setup the Bidadi Ashram on 1 January 2003.

Ever since then, for the past seven years Swamiji has untiringly worked day and night without caring for any comforts or rest. He worked on all the dimensions of Vedic dharma simultaneously to bring life back to the great ancient truths and traditions. Imagine a mere boy of 25 years starting a mission and within seven years achieving what he has today. It’s incredible and only possible with that clairvoyance and the realization of oneness with divinity.

He brought back ancient meditation techniques to life and opened them to the whole world through several scientific programs like ASP, NSP, BSP, Inner Awakening and several more. His programs are unique in the sense that they don’t just give theoretical knowledge but also give direct experience. Recently in a 21 day Inner awakening program a survey was done and an overwhelming 98% people reported that they benefited tremendously and would recommend the program to everyone around them.

He gave insightful discourses in modern tongue on some of the greatest scriptures, Shiva Sutras, Bhagvad Gita, Patanjali Yoga Sutras, Jain Sutras and Upanishads. He has already spoken an incredible 7,000 hours! And most of them have been made freely available through 600+ videos on Youtube for anyone who is interested. He also has authored over 200 books offering life solutions in various languages to people all across the world.

He brought life back to temples by taking keen interest in every aspect of temple activity and himself consecrating over 30 Vedic temples all over the World. People who have been to Dhyanapeetam Vedic temples attest to the fact that they are full of life and impart Vedic wisdom and peace in a unique way.
Service to the poor and needy is another important part of Swamiji’s vision. He is practical to the core and says unless the basic needs of food and education are met, no meditation techniques will bring any change. Dhyanapeetam ashrams and centers all over the world conduct free Anna Daan everyday. Bidadi and Tiruvannamalai ashram feed over one thousand kids free everyday. Free medical camps for needy are organized every week and not just consultation but medicines and surgical expenses are also covered by the Ashram. Free educational camps and meditation classes are conducted all over villages in South India and have benefited lakhs of people.

Swamiji has recently started several huge service projects to serve the people and uphold Santana dharma. He inaugurated the project for establishing 1008 schools all over the country to impart enlightenment-based education to the kids from a young age at near zero fees. Ashram funds 90% of the expenses for this service. He also started projects for the upkeep and maintenance of our heritage, some of our great temples, which lay in ruins.

Swamiji himself conducts free Bhagvad Gita satsangs and other mass programs where thousands of people come to get the knowledge and also darshan and blessings from the great master. Anyone who has been part of Kalpataru program or public darshan would have seen how Swamiji would sit for 10-12 hours at a stretch without any break and bless every single person individually. It simply requires effort, which is beyond human beings. His overflowing compassion is same for anyone and everyone.

Working untiringly over 20 hours a day continuously for last seven years, here Nithyananda is giving his life and blood for the people of Bharat and rest of the world and for the great Vedic Dharma and what do we do in return? Why does he need to do this? He neither has any desire nor time to enjoy any material goods.

Sword is back, only this time; it’s hidden under the might of pen and politics. Forces, which want to uproot every trace of ancient wisdom from Bharat, have been working for thousands of years. Whenever someone has risen up to breathe life into the great truths, he has been conspired against, manipulated and mired in endless small to big controversies and been forced to back track before anything significant could be achieved. We have numerous examples right from Ramakrishna, Vivekananda, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, Osho, Kanchi Shankaracharya and some of the present day masters who have suffered the same fate.

Don’t think Vivekananda was as respected as he is now. When he was in U.S, the media and high clergy were working day and night against him. He had to face all kinds of charges and unthinkable allegations during his life. When a master is living, he is not seen in the same light, as he is when he is not in body. After so many years, now we respect and honor Vivekananda as a true lion of Bharat. As one who stood tall and told the world what Sanatana Dharma stands for and brought those timeless truths to light. Now we don’t even know the foolish and baseless controversies, which people created during his lifetime. However when he was in body he had to continuously answer not just the masses but also his own brother disciples and faced several tests.

Let us, sons and daughters of Bharat Mata wake up and see the big picture. Let us not miss again. Mother has suffered enough. It is time for us to stand up and be the pillars of support for her. Let us not be ignorant and side anymore with forces that are blinded by socio-religious frenzy and want to tear apart the great truths and their life support institutions.

Time has come where we need to rise up and be counted. It’s very easy to sit in the comfort of our living rooms, watch T.V. and come to conclusions. However, if we really care for the truth, let us do a little more, let us see the work done by Nithyananda and let us investigate and see the history of the people and channels involved. Let us not be swayed by small or big manipulated controversies. This is not the first time and knowing the forces at work against us, this will neither be the last time. Let us rise above these and work for the greater cause. The forgotten and neglected Bharat Mata who has been giving, giving and giving and waiting patiently for her sons to open their eyes one day and stand with her and for her.

If Nithyananda is missed, it will be a colossal loss for the whole civilization and I don’t know how many janmas it would take to overcome this setback if at all it could be overcome. Let’s invoke the sleeping spirit of Bharat and work for the truth before it is too late!

Paramahamsa Nithyananda: Proof of Authenticity

THIS IS FOR ALL RESPONSIBLE AND INFORMED PEOPLE who have been following the news by Paramahamsa Nithyananda's sex scandal.

As responsible people, you understand how media and ignorant masses can hype up crap based on disintegrated and fabricated evidences. Why don't we as an educated class delve deep to find out the truth ourselves instead of relying on media propaganda / graphics (which may surely have been morphed)?

We have found full proof of his genuity, and if you are educated and can understand science, you will understand what we have written below.

1. An authentic scientific research was conducted in the US, which Paramahamsa Nithyananda happily agreed to (even though the tests involved injecting a radioactive die in the brain!!). The research showed the difference between a typical human brain and Paramahamsa Nithyananda's. The research gives scientific evidence of a chemical compound called "Dopamine", which gives pleasure in the body and for a normal human being, entire lifetime is dedicated to generation of this "Dopamine" in bouts.
Paramahamsa Nithyananda's brain had such a huge concentration of Dopamine, which he always refers to as feeling of eternal bliss within an enlightened person.
This SHOCKED the medical research team and they created this video to demonstrate to the world the authenticity and scientific proof of how brain of an "Enlightened Master" works.

Not only this, the doctors talk about SMR range of frequency which if brain can achieve, results in excellent co-ordination between mind and all muscles. Such state may be achieved by one of the best sportsmen in the world. The presentation shows how Paramahamsa Nithyananda was moving in and out of this frequency at will!!

Check out this video for the full presentation on scientific facts !!!

(View second page in the document below)
2. Dr. Collins observed how the brain waves of Paramahamsa Nithyananda work while Spiritually Healing people. The brain waves of the "healed" (a guy called David) were also examined by Dr. Collins. After a detailed research, Dr. Collins was shocked and concluded that a human mind is capable of healing human body if developed to an extent as Paramahamsa Nithyananda's mind is. He concluded that Paramahamsa Nithyananda's mind as well as the way he can heal is beyond a normal human phenomena, science-defying. He also said that Paramahamsa Nithyananda has the power to heal diseases from a small migraine to a big cancer.

Check this research report:

LEADING A NEGATIVE PROPOGANDA IS VERY EASY - creates rave within 1 day!! But as intelligent and educated human beings, WE MUST LOOK AT OUR OWN BENEFIT. The world is in a situation where we need someone like Paramahamsa Nithyananda to help, contribute and change sufferings as he has an incomparable internal power. Let us ONLY think about ourselves and the condition of our world, instead of filling up our dirty minds with another gossip to be discussed over dinner table while watching sensational tv channels.

AS RESPONSIBLE INDIVIDUALS TODAY, regardless of our religion, race, cast, country, politics - WE ARE RAISING A PETITION HERE TO SAVE THIS HIGHLY INTELLIGENT BEING, PARAMAHAMSA NITHYANANDA from the massacre created by the ignorant and anti-hindu media!!!

Why so much focus on Paramahamsa Nithyananda?

Enlightened Masters descend on planet earth for a purpose, which is to liberate the common man from shackles of cycle of birth and death. They re-establish what has been lost due to years of confusion, chaos, animosity between people and shuffling of races and religions. They fight resisting elements – the so-called evil elements, remind us of the eternal truths, elevate our consciousness and our connection with the divine – in essence empower us to achieve peace and freedom.

Human civilizations have been through humongous changes and cycles of evolution over the last thousand years, but what has not changed is the idea of survival of the fittest; the suppression of the weak by those who are powerful and man’s thirst to conquer not only nature but the fellow human beings. Handful rule thousands through fear and wield their power on the pivot of common man’s weaknesses.

Enlightened masters since time immemorial, be it Krishna, Swami Vivekananda, Swami Paramahamsa Nithyananda, Buddha, Jesus, Osho have stood tall like mighty lions against such forces. Each one of the masters has seen strong resistance in the form of physical force or strategic conspiracies to weaken the very roots of faith in these enlightened souls. Krishna was mocked at for being with gopikas; Swami Vivekananda for empowering Sister Nivedita to succeed him in his mission; Buddha was termed as an escapist for leaving his family and throne to achieve enlightenment; Jesus was betrayed for 30 silver coins and crucified; Osho was poisoned to death.

History repeats itself. It has repeated itself today. The wars which enlightened masters faced historically, Swami Paramahamsa Nithyananda is facing today, only the weapons are modern.

Swami Nithyananda has been the victim of a huge strategic conspiracy organized to attack the very roots of his foundation – Vedanta. Vedanta upheld the power of a sanyaasi which Nithyananda re-established through his organization Dhyanapeetam. In this controversy, Swamiji has been clearly and strategically attacked exactly at the root of his strength through this sex scandal. The way the scandal sparked off, caught flames and spread into a massive fire within a few hours of its announcement, and without any proven evidence, shows undoubtedly how evil elements this time are at play! The evil, resisting elements are not just at play, they have been scheming for this scandal for a few months, or probably for a few years!!

In this 20th century world of today, when people all over are busy running a rat race, where from and why did a massive section of people get the time and intent to engineer and execute this massive massacre of Swamiji’s reputation on an issue so disconnected, not proven by court and utterly shallow in its nature ?? It is a clear case of this resisting mass of people with a thirst of power – and guess what, a thirst of power over even God himself, for God is the only authority which can threaten the evil with the Truth. And this thirst for power in this evil is to be quenched at any cost and under any insignificant pretence. The result – a massive plot against yet another Enlightened Master by instilling fear amidst the rest of the population of the world, fear of recognizing or rather even believing in Enlightened Masters, and gradually even losing faith in God himself. This subsequent loss in faith in God himself is TODAY the cause of sufferings in each person’s small world as well as the world at large.

When will this vicious cycle of Enlightened Masters coming down to expand our consciousness and evil elements focused to play God, end?? – THE DAY WE ALL REALISE THAT WE CANNOT PLAY GOD, infact we don’t need to play God as God is most-loving. God who comes down in the form of an Enlightened Master to show us the path, to teach us the Truth, to re-establish all that was, to transform the evil as well, is utmost compassionate… does not judge… is simply here to remind us that we are all a part of him!!! You recognize this Truth today or tide into pain-joy cycle for another thousand years… before another Enlightened Master decides to come… or doesn’t come at all!

How difficult is it to recognize who is an Enlightened Master?? Even the evil elements today have recognized Swami Nithyananda. Is it not why they are threatened by his power – the power of God??

Can’t you all who are not part of this evil mass recognize that which even the evil mass has recognized? Overpower your weakness right here… break this vicious cycle right here – God is bigger than the evil. And thus simply understand and stand tall by the Truth that you are all a part of God… who is down on this Earth as our Enlightened Master… Swami Nithyananda… who says “I’m not here to say I am God, I’m here to show you that you are God.”… come and merge in Him, because in him we all exist… in Him can we rest in bliss… in Him can we be in Nithyananda!

Listen to Swami Paramahansa Nithyananda's first Samadhi experience:

Paramahamsa Nithyananda: A culprit or a victim?

Swami Nithyananda is the word ruling the search engines, social networking sites and the media circles alike. All this just because of a sex-tape recently revealed but not yet verified by court.

It is shocking to see that neither the place, time nor the identity of the women has been disclosed in a tape which has taken the entire nation by storm. The only thing repeatedly perpetuated is that the person is Nithyananda whereas the possibility of a fake video or an imposter being involved cannot be ruled out. It’s difficult to understand that how in the absence of such vital facts the person has been assumed to be Nithyananda.

Even the origin of the tape is ambiguous with Sun TV obtaining the tape from some undisclosed sources and then repeatedly telecasting the tape. Gradually all the media houses imitated the same just to increase their TRPs without having any verification of the tape or any consideration whatsoever regarding the reputation of a person whom millions of people hold in high regards worldwide. There is every possibility that by the use of graphics the content of the video can be manipulated. The video is murky at some crucial places and other discrepancies are also present. Not only is this Defamation but is also hurting the religious sentiments of the people at large.

Conspiracy may be hatched against Nithyananda due to certain vested interests of the powerful lobbies. Land-sharks had an evil eye on the lands donated to the organization by devotees for construction of schools and hospitals. Even the channel was already prejudiced against the Swami, as he had earlier declined to write his popular spiritual column for ‘Kungumam’, a Tamil weekly from ‘Sun TV’ stable. Certain religious cults and politicians were afraid of the swelling number of followers of Nithyananda as this posed a threat to their political and social standing so they were willing to do anything to uproot this threat. This could be a part of a “much larger conspiracy” to malign both Nithyananda and his institution by projecting his “morphed” images with an actress. This video could have been made in order to blackmail the Swami as even before the “so-called expose” by the TV channel, CDs’ with ‘morphed images’ had been e-mailed to him several times.

The action of the public as witnessed cannot be spontaneous it must have been meticulously planned and executed by someone. There has been mass violence and Ashrams of Nithyananda have been brutally targeted with large-scale destruction of property. A huge mob managed to break the police barrier and indulged in smashing window panes and putting “huts” inside the] ashram on fire. All this destruction could not have been accomplished in the absence of any prior planning. Care has been taken that no stone is left unturned to ensure that Nithyananda is completely subjugated this can be observed from the fact that when violence was at peak instead of restoring the law and order situation the forest department raided the ashram premises but to their dismay they found no serious violation of law like animal-skin or trees being cut but were able to seize only 20kg. Sandal-wood An Ashram has to have plenty of wood for havans and various other spiritual functions even then this was displayed as some major crime on the Ashram’s part. So they must have acted on the hidden motive to nail Nithyananda on one pretext or the other. Sometime back the Ashram authorities had themselves registered a police complaint that a sandalwood tree in the ashram premises had been stolen this wood could well be from that stolen tree.

Another rumor doing the rounds is that Nithyananda has gone underground whereas the fact is that he has gone to attend the biggest spiritual gathering of the world “Kumbh Mela” in Haridwar where his attendance is obvious and was planned last year or even before and was well known to the general public. So he is certainly not underground but is fulfilling his religious obligations.

Nithyananda never proclaimed him to be God but always stressed that God is omnipresent and you should try to explore God within yourself. This he did by telling people to live and radiate “Living Enlightenment” and merge into universal consciousness which is realizing “Aham Brahmasmi” that you are God. So there arises no question of cheating the people by posing as God.

Even if we blindly accept the video to be true without any verification by authorities or by the court then also we see it as a blatant violation of the Fundamental Right to Privacy which not only the Constitution envisages but is also enumerated in the International Covenants.

Nithyananda did not do any obscene act in public but in his privacy if he did anything at all so he like all others is also entitled to right to privacy and anything cannot be publicized in any manner to the public leave alone the extremely defamatory sense in which it is poured on the platter for the people. As per Indian law it is perfectly legal for two adults to indulge in consensual sex. Not only was the consent present on the part of the women in the video but they were provocative in their action as could be seen from the video. So we could very clearly infer from the chain of events that not even in the extreme remote possibility has Nithyananda committed any crime but has been subjugated and victimized in a meticulously planned manner .The media should exercise restrain and try to go deep into the conspiracy to come out with the true story of Nithyananda’s victimization.

Another thing worth noting here is that there has been no complaint against the Swami from any directly affected party. Nithyananda’s lawyers alleged that actress Ranjitha was even “threatened” to make a complaint against the Swami, which she refused. No guilt can be presumed until the charge has been proved beyond reasonable doubt in a court of law. Building a reputation takes a lifetime but it takes seconds to malign that reputation of a person and immediately he turns into a perpetrator in the public’s eye. India has “Rule of law” which states that no one is above the law therefore be it Swami or the powerful conspirators they should be duly penalized for the wrongs committed. So this “false propaganda and defamatory statements” against a law abiding true person should be stopped with immediate effect. Media should not become a tool at the hands of some powerful businessmen and politicians.

Nithyananda Dhyanapeetam is a worldwide movement which is committed to bringing about a true awakening for all, irrespective of race, culture or nationality. Paramahamsa Nithyananda has been a transformational force in the lives of over 2 million people across numerous countries around the world. Nithyananda is reviving the timeless Vedic wisdom in the light of modern living and creating opportunities for the powerful transformation of the individual and the community.

Schools, medical camps, free meals, meditation programs, Vedic temples, free discourses, etc. are being provided for the betterment of the public.

“The good is oft interred with their bones” was said by Mark Antony for great people, this quote seems to be true when the case of Nithyananda is examined. “Truth alone Triumphs” so whatever be the conspiracy a true and innocent person like him is bound to come clear.

All of you has had a glimpse of the scandalous sex tape, yet to be proven by the Court. Lets now look at the work of this great enlightened master for last 7 years and not forget that completely.

India - only country where majority community is persecuted ?

While i was glancing over some news reports today, a news in a small insignificant corner attracted my eyes.

" A Kerala Christian priest has been arrested for alleged sexual abuse of a minor girl inmate of a hostel run by Orthodox Church at Pothukal in Malappuram district in September last year. The victim is a student of Catholicate Higher Secondary School run by the church.

Father K G Joseph alias Father Habib Joseph was arrested and produced in a local court on Thursday. He, however, was granted bail."

A Christian priest who is sexually abusing a minor which is legally and constitutionally a Crime!, gets off with as much as a small mention in the media whereas if the same act was done by a Hindu monk you all know what would have been the reaction. Recently alleged tapes of Swami Nithyananda (identity yet to be proven) and an adult woman were aired and splashed across all possible media channels and newspapers with gross and vulgar 24 hour coverage as if it was the biggest calamity happenend on Planet Earth!

We fail to realize or even take note of so many basic facts:
1) identity is yet to be proven. Unless proven no one can be branded as a criminal as per law. then why such over the top reaction?
2) even if the extreme view is taken that it's genuine, there is no legal case as the two persons involved are adults and there is obviously no force involved.

What is happening to this land of Bharat! Are we simply playing like pawns in the hands of vested foreign interests and crusaders of conversion and Jehad ?

Do we even realise who our protectors are and who are the enemies? Time to take stock and wake up before it is too late. One Jaichand was enough to lead this country into thousand years of slavery, let us not follow in his footsteps. Stand tall like the sons of this soil - Shivaji and Vivekananda! With some intelligence we can clearly see what is happening is a deep conspiracy against the very roots of this beautiful Vedic dharma. Lets not fall prey this time. We need Swami Nithyananda - a true giant who has done many lifetimes of work and service for vedic dharma in this young age of 32!

Mind of a Mystic

Sri. Nithyananda Swami is a trim, healthy looking young man with dark, shoulder-length hair. Handsome and polite, possessing an open manner and a wealth of curiosity, he could be any ordinary American college student.

The difference is that ordinary American college students do not wear orange robes and turbans, have not experienced spiritual enlightenment and are not regarded as a teacher, healer and mystic by millions of people in all corners of the world.

A mystic? The term is not a bad fit for "Swami," as he is known. Mystics, popular culture tells us, have direct communion with God. Through means not understood or measurable, mystics are thought to have access to ultimate realities or truths. Picture a mystic and you’ll probably picture someone full of bliss, someone gifted with lofty thoughts and insights the rest of us do not possess. The very presence of a mystic is thought to bring peace and healing to others.

That’s an apt description of Swami, a 27-year-old from South India. He is approached by thousands of people a year seeking relief from diseases and ailments that conventional medical approaches have not cured. Swami’s background lends him the air of a mystic, too. He left his home as a teen, visited ashrams across India, immersed himself in philosophy, read extensively and mastered the art of meditation.

When Swami passed through Oklahoma City recently as one stop in his world travels, I asked him if he would let me use some of modern medicine’s newest technology to peer into his brain while he meditated. My goal: to understand, measure and demystify what happens during the mystic phenomena. Swami, who believes that meditation has a scientific basis, happily agreed.

The procedures Swami went through were administered by some of Oklahoma City’s finest and most experienced physicians, neuropsychologists and researchers: Drs. Fordyce, Ruwe and Higgins of the Jim Thorpe Rehabilitation Center Neuropsychology Department and Dr. Chacko of the PET Center of Oklahoma. These doctors were using technology they use with patients on a routine basis. When they look at images obtained by their technology, they know what’s normal and what’s not.

The results from testing Swami? Decidedly not normal.

Our first look into Swami’s brain was achieved with the help of a Positron Emission Tomography (PET) device. Unlike traditional diagnostic techniques that produce images of the body’s structure or anatomy, such as X-rays, CT scans or MRI, PET produces images of the function of the brain through the metabolic activity of cells. An analog of glucose is attached to a radioactive PET tracer. The PET scanner then images the metabolically active brain areas at any given time.
In the case of Swami, the drug was intended to identify highly active areas of the brain in an alert and conscious state, in the early stages of meditation and during deep meditation.

The results of the PET scan tests were stunning. To begin with, the activity in the frontal lobes of Swami’s brain were significantly heightened, even in early meditation stages. The level of activity was higher than would be seen in the average human brain under any conditions.
When we then asked Swami to go into the deepest meditation state, there were two more remarkable findings.

First, the dominant hemisphere of Swami’s brain was more than 90 percent shut down. It was as if Swami’s brain had packed up and gone on vacation. It was quiet and still, completely at peace … and Swami had made it so at will.

A second amazing aspect of Swami’s deep meditation was that the lower portion of his mesial frontal areas lighted up in a very significant way. This area roughly corresponds to the reputed location of the mystical "Third Eye."

When we later asked Swami what he was doing when the mesial frontal areas lighted up, he said he was opening his third eye.

Associated with both cosmic and inner knowledge and thought to be a place of clarity and peace, the Third Eye is considered by many to be the seat of the soul. Were we seeing an indication that deep meditation can open an area of the brain responsible for communicating with the divine, looking deep into the mysteries of self or creation? I believe the PET scan revealed what I call the brain’s "D-spot." Whether you consider the "D" in D-spot to stand for delight, the divine or even dopamine, the chemical through which our bodies experience pleasure, initial indications are that meditation can stimulate it.

The second procedure we used to look into Swami’s brain is known as Quantitative Electroencephalography, or QEEG. QEEG measures electrical patterns in the brain, patterns commonly referred to as brainwaves.

There are four bandwidths of brainwaves, each different in speed and each associated with a different state of mind. For instance, beta brainwaves are small and fast and linked with an awake, alert state of mind. Alpha brainwaves are slower and larger and are connected to feelings of well-being. Theta waves represent a state of consciousness between that is close to sleep, a stage in which there is a sense of calmness and serenity without active thought.

In a day’s time, most people will experience all four types of brainwaves. The progression from one bandwidth to another, though, is not so easily in their control.

From Swami’s QEEG, though, we can see that he has complete control over his brainwaves. When in deep meditation, his brain smoothly shifted from one state to another, like a talented pianist playing the scales. There was no hesitation and no retreating, just continuous, fluid shifts from one type of brainwave to the next. Because the QEEG represents the five brainwave bandwidths as colors, it was as we were watching Swami float from color to color within a rainbow.

The brain is the body’s most complex organ, containing more than 100 billion neurons, each of them in chemical and electrical conversation with up to 10,000 other neurons. Its sheer capacity to process information is astonishing.

Remarkably, that complexity presents little difficulty for Swami in managing his brain activity. Swami’s mind – his thoughts, emotions and intellect – control his brain. He can, in a very fluid, easy way, shift his brain function and alter his brainwaves.

More than answering questions, the voyage we took into the mind of a mystic brings intriguing questions for study.

Are there techniques we can learn and teach that will bring balance and peace into people’s lives?

Can we invoke a healing response or accelerate healing through specific training? Can we learn techniques that will allow us to control pain or alter the course of a disease?

Can we learn to activate what I call our D-spot, thus putting us in instant connection to delight or the divine?

The results from our study of Swami are new pages in our world’s growing book of research on the brain. There continue to be indications that the human mind may be able to choose to heal the body. We’re now looking at the possibility of people learning and acquiring these healing capabilities, an event of immense benefit for humankind. The potential for altering the rates and progression of many diseases – heart disease, cancer, arthritis, alcoholism and many others – is beginning to look achievable.

Swami is a bridge between the invisible, ancient world of mysticism and the modern, visible world of science and discovery. As brain research continues on a widespread basis, and as we appropriately bring the phenomena of mysticism into the realm of science for further study, we are taking strides on a path of hope and health.
